Making a meaningful
difference in Brighton & Hove

The Community Trust of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Brighton-based grantmaking trust (registered charity no. 252222) whose aim is to make a meaningful difference to small local charitable organisations in Brighton and Hove.

To achieve this, we provide three main types of grant: Community Grants, School Grants and Church Grants:

Community Grants are made to charities and other not-for-profit organisations in Brighton and Hove, and particularly to those supporting disadvantaged children, young people and women. These grants tend to be in the range of £500 to £3,500 and very exceptionally, up to £5,000.

School Grants are made to the city’s Church of England schools and principally to those that have a connection to our founder, Fr Arthur Wagner, and which seek funding for Religious Education activity, books or other resources. School Grants tend to be in the range of £500 to £3,000.

Church Grants are made to Church of England parishes within Brighton and Hove, and particularly those connected with Fr Wagner, to advance their religious and other charitable or community works. Church Grants tend to be in the range of £100 to £500.

Please refer to the pages on ‘Grantmaking’ and ‘How to Apply’ to get a better understanding of the kind of work the trustees like to support, and how to submit an application if you meet our criteria.

Good luck!

* Please see below for a few examples of the charities and projects recently supported by The Community Trust.

BrightPIP (Brighton Parent Infant Psychological Therapy) is a charity offering intensive support to expectant parents and those with newborn babies up until the age of three. Its vision is “to change the future for vulnerable babies, one baby at a time in Brighton and Hove”.

FareShare

FareShare believes that “no good food should go to waste”, so the charity redistributes surplus food to other charities that turn it into meals.

Whoopsadaisy

Whoopsadaisy is a small charity (Reg. No 1083024) based in Preston Park, Brighton that provides free, Conductive Education-based services to help children with physical disabilities reach their full potential.
